Rumpke Sanitary Landfill, Inc. wants to expand its landfill off U.S. Route 27 all the way to I-275, but Colerain Township is fighting Rumpke's wishes. Colerain Township is appealing a Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas March 6 decision that ruled Rumpke as a public utility, allowing the landfill the right to expand.… Post the First Comment

Ohio turtles in danger of over-harvesting as Asia requests more meat

When the students on Miami University's campus go to a dining hall to eat, none approach the server and say, "I'd like the turtle meat, please." Turtle meat simply isn't something most Ohio residents would ever think of eating. According to Tierra Curry, conservation biologist at the Center for Biological Diversity, a non-profit conservation group, Asia's turtle population has drastically decreased due to over-harvesting caused by the popularity of turtle dishes and the lack of enforcement for turtle harvesting.… Post the First Comment

Area courts release overdue fees to agency
Butler County is taking a new approach to collecting outstanding court fees. Butler County area courts (I, II and III) are implementing a policy to send individuals with outstanding court fees to a collection agency beginning April 6. "Basically what we are looking at are people who have just totally ignored us, and this goes back to the year 2000," said Linda Lovelace, court administrator for Butler County Area I Court.… Post the First Comment
