OPD recognizes underage repeat offender
At 2:30 a.m. Wednesday officers were dispatched to a fight outside Jimmy John's. When police arrived, an employee pointed to four males walking down High Street and said one of them had been pushed through the window of the store. The officers followed the males into the entrance of 37 E. High St. and found two of them lying on the ground.
One of the males on the ground reportedly had blood all over him and was identified as Miami University junior Sean Parker. Parker reportedly told police he didn't know who had pushed him from behind into the window but became agitated while waiting for the life squad to arrive.
Parker's friends reportedly discouraged him from going with the life squad and sophomore Nate West, who had been celebrating his 21st birthday, brought Parker to the second floor landing and tried to get him to go upstairs and get away from the police. West was also reportedly yelling he had not done anything and he was 21.
An officer reportedly told West and Parker to go down the steps so he could be picked up by the life squad and warned West to leave in three seconds or he would be arrested. The officer reportedly counted to three out loud and West refused to leave.
Another male, identified as first-year Robert Kuzner, 20, reportedly told police he had also been assaulted and believed his nose was broken. Kuzner reportedly said he could not identify the subjects who had assaulted him. While police were speaking with the males, they reportedly smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on their breath and noticed their eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
Kuzner reportedly provided an I.D. card and put it quickly back in his pocket, but one of the officers said she recognized him from an arrest the week before and knew he was underage. Kuzner was found in possession of someone else's identification and his own driver's license, but the officers also found an Ohio driver's license face down in the corner of the entryway when Kuzner tried to sit on it and hide it.
While officers were dealing with West and Kuzner at OPD, they were called to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital because Parker provided the nurses with a fake identification.
Kuzner was charged with possession of a fake I.D. and underage intoxication, Parker was charged with possession of a fake I.D. and West was charged with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct-public intoxication.
MU junior steals 'one way' sign from University Ave.
At 5:30 a.m. Wednesday officers were dispatched to 216 E. Sycamore St. regarding a subject in the hall of the apartment building taking apart a "one way" sign.
When police arrived they found two one way signs still on the pole with tools and a bolt nearby. The door of a nearby apartment was open and a male was passed out inside with tools and a small toolbox nearby.
The male woke up and was identified as Miami University junior Brent Weintrub, 21. When officers asked Weintrub if he had passed out in the process of removing the signs he reportedly told them he must have. Weintrub reportedly told police he had taken the signs from University Avenue.
Police told Weintrub to put the signs back on the pole and carry them outside. Weintrub was charged with theft.
